Out with the Old, In with the New

You heard it here first.

Melvis has a new podcast coming out. And he’s no longer interested in plain audio, ladies and gentlemen. That’s right: he will be subjecting us to his grinning mug on the screen because “M.B.” will be a video podcast!

Mel is currently filming season 1, and he hopes to start releasing episodes early next month. I asked him why he wouldn’t move for an immediate release, and he replied that he wanted no interruptions once Season 1 began. Picky celebrities know what they want– and that’s what makes them the best. Fan Club intel says we can expect the season to begin right after the Independence Day holiday.

What can we expect? Rumor has it that Mel came up with the idea of a video show after watching a “Surreal Life” marathon. This suggests you can expect a regular cast of characters and personal reflections on the events you see on the screen. But I can’t imagine a Melvis product without at least a little bit of performing. Due to the success of the interview-song format of the Melvis audio show, sources suspect he will follow a similar formula when he switches to video.

What is the show called? Mel says everyone knows what he’s capable onstage, this show will be to show everyone the rare, personal side not many people get to know. I guess we’ll have to live with that cryptic answer until the master reveals all.

Expect a website redesign this summer as well.

I don't know the specific date and time this happened, but Mel is now #1 on google search. You can also go to google.com, enter 'melvis', and hit "I'm feeling lucky". It's the luck of the Melvis!

Of course, google is way ahead of Yahoo!, who still list Mel at #3. We need to work to get him up in the ranks.

You could always ask Jeeves if Melvis has a fan club. He seems to know quite a lot.

Melvis Bogged in Legal Battle

Melvis has been in and out of court doing battle (yet again) with the Elvis estate. It turns out they are trying to block him from releasing the Christmas episode because it features a rendition of "Blue Christmas" that "so totally eclipses the King's performance that it would damage Elvis' reputation irrepairably." Well, we here at the fan club have known that Mel is the real deal compared to the dethroned King for years! The word from the gossip line is that this dispute goes way back between Priscilla and Melvis. It turns out the two had dated for some time before she ever met Elvis. The juicy rumour is that after their first lovemaking, Priscilla alledgedly said to Elvis, "You may be the King, but you're no Melvis."

Rest assured that our lawyers have cleared up this old lovers quabble and we will have the go-ahead to release the Christmas episode momentarily.

I've been recently made aware that Wild Bob is receiving good press aroud town. With news articles in the Daily Herald, Wild Bob is poised to steal the microphone from Melvis in the virtual King of Karaoke contest.

It's been mentioned before by VP Frankie V, but we need to promote and sponsor a "Melvis vs. Wild Bob" popularity contest. To do this we need several things to happen.

1. A dedicated night of Karaoke where the two entertainers can go head to head without interruption. This would include management permission and verbage on the marquee advertising the event. Each member of the audience would get one vote at the end of the night as to who was the better performer.

2. An Elvis costume for Mel, complete with sequins.

3. Notification of the local press to this landmark event.

4. A 7 state, international Melvis promotional tour

5. T-shirts, buttons and other promotional garb that the real fans could wear.

6. An unprecidented mobilization of the Melvis Militia (tm) in promoting this event and being on hand the evening of the show to support Mel.

Please consider donating to the Melvis Costume fund. I would hope this event could take place in the fall, giving each party equal time to prepare.

Having not seen Wild Bob perform in awhile, I can't say how he's holding up. But Melvis has been branching out into new material like Achy Breaky Heart, Love Shack duets, etc. I can't imagine there would be any contest as to his Karaoke capabilities.

As a part of this promotion, I will rededicate my time to posting on the Official Melvis Fan Club Website to keep spirits high and keep any other would-be karaoke contenders in their place.

New Tinted Glasses

Melvis, in his eternal quest to become his hero, Elvis, recently bought bionic glasses to help in his portrayal of the King. After seeing similar spectacles on the runways in Paris, Mel decided to update his look. The crowd gave mixed reviews: some liked the new shades and thought they were a definite enhancement, while others (mostly ladies, mind you) were complaining that the glasses were too distracting to his performances. They said his new look made him too dashing and that they couldn't concentrate on his singing because he looked so darn good.

MFC Celebrates Armed Forces Day with Wine, Muppets

To celebrate Melvis's time of service in the military the Melvis Fan
Club chose Armed Forces Day to tour the beautiful Lynfred Winery in
Roselle, Illinois. It was a day of fun filled Activities put together
by the MFC Event Coordinator, Christie. Following a tour of the
quaint winery, which was founded in 1979 by Lynn and Fred Koehler, the
fan club went to the Event Coordinator's home where they created
home-made pizzas and watched "the Muppets Wizard of Oz". Later in the
evening they headed out to Hoffman Lanes to experience another
spectacular performance by the Melvis and to dance to yours truly's
rendition of Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like a Record).

"I'm enjoying my role as Event Coordinator and I believe the first MFC
outing was fabulous" said Event Coordinator Christie of the days
activities. "I'm glad to see that Christie is taking her role as
Event Coordinator so seriously" said Barb before touring the ivy
covered winery. The MFC members in attendance would like to thank a
random passerby for taking the picture of them in front of the winery
sign and to thank Christie's stove for being the perfect height to set
the camera on in the absence of a tripod.

Regretfully, the Melvis was unable to attend the winery tour because
he was unable to find the correct location. Had this been a tour of
the Budweiser or Miller brewery instead of a winery though, this
reporter is confident that the Melvis would have been able to sniff
out the location.

As Mel Presidente, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our newest chapter added with the signing of the Nashville Charter! The lovely people of Nashville have been working tirelessly to attain this level of recognition. It was a seven step processs that included community outreach, maintaining detailed alcohol consumption logs, and a karaoke challenge.

Upon successful completion of the process, the Nashville hopefuls sent delegates to the shrine of Melvisdom, the Fabulous Hoffman Lanes. It was in this inner sanctum that the delegates were able to experience the Melvis firsthand. The magical evening concluded with the signing of the Nashville Charter, which officially recognized this branch of Melvisfans.

And, to officially seal the charter, one more important step needed to be taken. Much like the nautical community christening a boat with champagne, the delegates were christened with a kiss from the legend himself.

Sorry for the non-updates. I've been drunk the past week and unable to see my monitor through the beer goggles, making it impossible to add articles. Feeling much better now.

We have an update from Union Rep James Jaz about his recent business trip to Detriot.

Your Union Rep is hard at work trying to get the people of Detroit
exposed to the man - the myth - the legend - the Melvis!

1) on Day one I drove into a gang fight. I turned on Melvis at full
volume and stopped the turf war as they all froze and were hypnotized
by Melvis's melodic voice. Apparently though it wasn't loud enough,
because they started shooting at me after 10 seconds because I
couldn't turn the volume up any further.

2) I was playing "My Way" for some kids while stopped at a light (they
were really getting into it) and they ran off after the song. As the
light turned green I tried to accelerate, but the car wouldn't budge.
Someone had stolen my tires right out from under me! It must have
been someone training for a NASCAR pit crew! I wonder if the kids saw
who did it?

New Melvis Performances Announced!!!!

Well, the time has come for the big time. It's a bittersweet moment, because so many of us have come to rely on the heart-stopping shows that Mel puts on at the bowling alley for free. It's great tham Mel will finally be making some money from his refined talent, but it means us freeloaders need to start putting up the dough.

It basically breaks down like this:

Frankie will continue to run his normal Karaoke show in the West Bar as he normally does. But, for those who want to see the Melvis, you'll have to journey into the seldom-used East Bar (located by the pro shop).

I did have a chance to talk to the management about this interesting move:

Regis: "So why the change to put Melvis in the East Bar?"
*Fritz: "After lengthy talks with the Melvis Estate, we decided to make the change and meet Mel's demands. When you have a talent like his coming into your business, you'll do whatever it takes to keep him around."

R: "But why the East Bar?"
F: "The Melvis Estate was adamant about using a more intimate setting. While we certainly believe that Mel could easily fill the West Bar several nights a week, we had to bow to artist demands."

R: "How do you see this change affecting the regular bargoer at the FHL?"
F: "Well, it's going to be difficult for those who want an audience with Melvis. The max capacity of the East Bar is 50 seated, and Mel doesn't want any standing room only tickets sold. We will only be selling same-day performance tickets, so we expect the ticket rush to begin as soon as we open our doors Saturday morning. We have strict orders to our bartenders and employees to not sell tickets in advance, even to VIPs.

R: "What about special promotions for groups like the Fan Club?"
F: "We have no plans to offer any specials on ticket sales at this point in time."

R: "You made it a point to keep Karaoke going even though Melvis will no longer be singing in the West Bar."
F: "Yes, although we expect Karaoke nights to be far diminished in attendance. It will basically be the people who were unable to secure tickets for the Melvis Performance. We wil be analyzing different options when we see the Karaoke numbers. I fully expect to remove Karaoke altogether by summer. Without Melvis, it's really going to have less appeal for the average patron."

R: "Any comment on the rumors that the show will include a topless Vegas-style revue?"
F: "We are not releasing any information about the show, and that's all I will say."

R: "Thanks for your time."

Management was kind enough to release this promotional flyer that they will be using to hype the Melvis show (right-click and view in new window to see detail). I will see if I can get some comment from Melvis, but I'm sure he will be very tight-lipped about it, maybe even pretending he doesn't know what I'm talking about.

There were several individuals in the crowd last night from the Detroit chapter of the Melvis Fan Club. Mel put on quite a show for them, pulling out all the stops. In a rare move he invited the VIPs onstage for his traditional closing number, "My Way", and had them sing along. Despite their vocal enthusiasm, I think you would agree that Melvis' voice clearly shines through them like a bluejay among pigeons. A robin among crows? A parrot among vultures? I don't know, it's late.

M-E-double L-I, V-I-S spells...Mellivis?

Well, we all drank green beer and enjoyed a special Thursday night show at the Hoffman Palace Ballroom. Green beverages were had by all. Melvis really got into the spirit, as did everyone else (including Frankie...obviously).

Melvis sang really well, doing some of his standards as well as a special treat to close the show, a showstopping "Danny Boy". Melvis thought the show went so well, he passed a hat for the beer fund. No one was seen making a donation.

By the end of the night, the crowd was really going crazy every time Mel sang. So much was the response that Mel got really choked up by how much the crowd loved him. What a great Irishman.

On Saturday many of us were treated to the Pilsner girls at Hoffman Lanes passing out free beer. While many of the men in the audience were staring fondly at these lovely ladies, Melvis was puttin' on the Ritz.

Here we see our favorite 60-year-old moving like he was 59 again. I tell you what, Melvis could be my teddy bear any day of the week. "Thank you baby!"

The Keychain

Anyone who has experienced the Melvis knows what a fashion conscious person he is. Always dresses sharp for a performance, and he knows how to accessorize. What I would consider the mainstay of the Melvis outfit is his distinctive keychain. Always worn on the loop of his pants, the keychain jingle lets you know when greatness has entered the room.

Well, as a visitor to the Melvis Fan Club, you now get the inside scoop on the constituent parts of this unique artifact:

Moving counter-clockwise from the left, we see that Mel has his priorities in order. First and foremost, we need food to live. We see that he keeps his "Jewel-Osco Preferred Card" and his "Dominicks Fresh Values Card" at the ready. It's really no surprise that Melvis has memberships to these exclusive clubs.

Another elite group is the "Ace Helpful Hardware Club". Not being a member myself, I don't know if this is the type of club Captain Caveman carried or if it's a membership group, but certainly when you have the massive fame that Melvis has, a large club might be helpful in fending off the fans.

Next, we see how hip the Melvis is with his stylish "94.7 the Zone" bottle opener. When Melvis sings, he sticks to the classics, but as for cruising in his ride, he rocks out to the newest rock around.

Rounding out the key cards is a "Speedway Speedy Rewards", the bronzed "Firestone Mastercare" card, and "Schaumburg Automedics, inc."

We assume that the keys are to his house, the Escalade, and the Porshe, but Mel's personal belongings remain a closely guarded secret. So next time you see him, give him a nod and flash your Jewel card. Members only.

I would like to apologize to all the loyal websurfers for not posting any new content this month. We have been under a strict gag order from the Michael Jackson trial. There have been some unconfirmed reports that Melvis was one of the dancers in the "Thriller" video, but again, because of the gag order we are not at liberty to discuss this.

During this silent time, I've been transfering files to a new server, so hopefully you will not notice any difference in the site's performance. I can tell you that we'll be able to upload much more content now with the new server, which is good news for everyone.

There is a new podcast out on the internet waves called "The Unemployment Line" (www.unemploymentshow.com). It features all three members of the executive board, myself, Frankie, and Greg. While we will be discussing many different topics in this podcast, there is a weekly segment dedicated to Melvis and the fan club, so feel free to listen in.

Hey everyone, it's your Mel Presidente, Regis, here with your monthly update. February has been a landmark month for the Melvis Fanclub. We've finally found a home on the net and have been amassing photos, video, and sound clips wonderfully. Of course we all owe this to the Melvis for being in top form this month.

New Songs?
I had time to talk with melvis between sets recently and he mentioned he will be trying new material weekly. When I voiced concern that this would take attention away from his 'standards', he replied "fuck it." How can you argue with that.

Open membership
In a unanimous vote, the board decided that there are no 'general members' in the Melvis Fan Club. Therefore, everyone who joins must have a title. From "caterer" to "stunt coordinator", every Melvisfan will have a special duty in the fanclub. We felt this keeps everyone on even ground.

New Sponsorship?
It's true. The Melvis Fan Club will be sponsoring a new podcast starting in march. We feel this is an important expenditure in our budget for all the exposure it will generate. The exact nature of the podcast is being kept under lock and key, but I can tell you that while it will not focus exclusively on the Melvis, there will be regular segments dedicated to him. Look for more info at the top of the month.

Hotel California Commentary

As an illustration of the professionalism of Melvis, I am posting a brief mp3 of Saturday's performance of "Hotel California". Mel tackes this new song (even though he sang it before) with a vigor unlike any other. Despite being a live board feed, it's still a little fuzzy, so I included a transcript of his commentary.

"Never sang it, but I'll try it, though."

Sing Along With Melvis

I have an exciting announcement I can finally share with the membership (legal reasons). A video company has been working with Mel to put together a sort of "Sing Along With Melvis" video. I don't know if this is specifically geared toward children or if it will be 'fun for all ages'. From extensive phone conversations with the producers, here's what I know:

the video will be approx. 60 minutes in length.
all video will be of Melvis live in performance
karaoke-type words will follow along each song
(speculation) some rare outtakes and brief interview clips
Laserdisc and BETA format only

To get the promotional ball rolling, the video agency also sent me a brief clip of what the video will look like. The quality isn't that great, but remember they've just begun post-production. This is the last half-minute of "My Way". I think they sent me this clip because the content is such a closely guarded secret, but "My Way" is such an obvious inclusion they didn't feel they'd be spoiling any surprises.

Vocal Coaching

We can officially add 'philanthropist' to Mel's lexicon of descriptors. He has been working with many youth, one pictured here, acting as a sort of mentor.

Really he's doing mostly vocal coaching, but also giving lessons in showmanship, stage presence, and working a crowd. I was observing him work his magic with this young woman in a real life situation.

We can see from the photos that he's leading her in his footsteps. After the coaching session I sat down with the young lady and spoke to her. She said she hopes to audition for American Idol next year and is getting professional help wherever she can get it. I know it takes a lot of work, but I admire both their dedication working so hard before this year's season is really underway!

The best part? Melvis is doing it all for free. You can't beat a guy like Mel, except with a large stick.

During my regular webcrawl for Melvis items, I found this little gem. There appear so be some bootleg Melvis wmv's surfacing on the internet. They are very low quality, but how can you water down the genius of Melvis?

This is a very recent clip of Mel's show closer/showstopper "My Way", which in many people's opinions is better than Sinatra's. Viewers of this video are encouraged to decide for themselves.

The audacity. The contempt. The sheer bravado.

Such were my thoughts as a slightly juiced Melvis challenged Frankie V to an arm wrestling tournament well after bar hours this past Wednesday. The fact that FJV has 30+ years on Mel notwithstanding, I thought this might actually be a good match-up. Boy, was I wrong.

Not only did Mel slam FJV's knuckels on the table a whopping 7 times, he did so without conceding one victory to his younger challenger. 7 victories in a row. Just before the last victory, Mel swiveled his hat around, looked FJV directly in the eye, and laughed. And a damn sinister laugh at that.

I know that the disclaimer says he's cute and cuddly, but know this today my friends: when it all comes down to it, for your own safety, don't fuck with the Melvis.

Commercial: "The Best of Melvis"

Melvis has finally hit the radio with a great collection of CDs entitled "The Best of Melvis". According to the liner notes of this collection Mel went into the recording studio January of '05 and threw down a bunch of tracks in no time flat. I know I've heard of some performers taking months, even an entire year to record a CD! But Melvis was able to put together an 8 CD collection in about a month! We should start calling him "One Take Melvis" (because once is about all I can take).

Apparently Frankie V is direct-selling this collection through his regular Karaoke shows, so you need to ask him for information. I know I've heard him play the radio spot during the shows as well as hearing them on XM Satellite Radio. (Can we even hope for an all Melvis station!?!) I don't know specifics as to how much the collection costs (I got my copy coplimentary as the President of the Fan Club). Maybe I can negotiate a deal where fan club members can purchase this collection for a discounted price. No guarantees on that, though.

Needless to say, this is a 5-star CD compilation that, as the commercial states, "no CD collection would be complete without." Be sure to pick up yours today!

Melvis: The PSA

I need to do more research as to the time and circumstances that the Melvis Public Service Announcement was written, but we do know the source. Frankie V. composed this lovely verse to increase Mel's popularity even more. I mean, think about it: no one gets more airtime than Melvis!

Melvis is much like a stray dog:

He'cute;

He's cuddly;

He's friendly;

He won't bite.

However--Like a stray dog...

If you pet him

He won't leave your side.

If you continue to pet him

He will be humping your leg

By the end of the night.

So... Ladies especially:

Please do not feed the Melvis.

This poem is now verbatim what Frankie V recites at least once a night right before Melvis sings. It really gets the crowd excited about Mel's spectacular performances. I know it does for me! Thanks Frankie for the corrections.

No Relation?

I know that sometimes when I'm on the microphone I've been known to make the assertion that "Melvis is my father", even though in true life this is not the case. But, since I go by the name Regis when I sing I thought it might be interesting to our members to see a side-by-side comparison of The Melvis and The Man, Regis Philbin.

As you can see, there really isn't much differece. The hair color is a little off, and Mel prefers those dark, mysterious glasses, but the poses are almost identical.

Also, if you analyze the personalities, it's a match. Both are outspoken...incredible singers, and ohhh do they have a way with the ladies.

Regis and Melvis: Separated at Birth? I think so.

A Personal Wish

While sifting through the extensive photojournalistic files I have on the Melvis, I found one of him relaxing in his favorite boa after an intense set. I feel this pic captures the hard work, the artistry, and the sheer passion of the man as he catches his breath. I don't recall the exact date it was taken, possibly Winter 2003, but I miss the Vegas nights where Melvis would come in costme and give a special performance, filled with beautiful music and sentimental moments. I can only hope he will bring these special times back someday...

Getting the Girls

I'd like to report an unfortunate event, and my unfortunate, I mean unfortunate for "Creamy Steve". It appears that while Creamy is working hard onstage selling it to the crowd, Mel is sneaking in on his woman. Pictured here we can see Melvis was so bold as to put the moves on Monica mere feet away from Creamy!

Later, the two could be seen dancing cheek-to-cheek and thigh-to-thigh (?) on the dance floor.

And I think Creamy's face captures the utter shock and disappointment right here:

Well, Creamy Steve, if you're going to be out-manned, you might as well be out-manned by the best: the Melvis.

Hip Hop Melvis

It appears "the Melvis" has finally joined a hip-hop trio in an attempt to score more of the bling. I think it's great to see him taking his art in new directions. He's such an extremely versatile artist, I can only see success in his future with these musical fusions. We need to get recordings!
